Remote and wild

Photo essay: Ski slopes of beautiful Dizin

Earlier this year I was in Dizin skiing. On the one hand, Dizin is emblematic of a lot that’s wrong with the IRI. The lifts are all decades old and frequently break down, it’s owned by giant bonyad, at the halfway lodge a couple of bearded guys in army uniforms stand around like party crashers, and the lift that used to go to the summit lodge is long gone. (You can hike up to the abandoned summit lodge, though, and many of the photos below were taken from its roof.) On the other hand, it’s absolutely beautiful up there and largely undeveloped. When the IRI eventually falls and the West rediscovers Dizin, I hope the new stewards manage to preserve a little bit of that remote and wild feeling.

It is a beautiful place and really a shame that the morons in charge have no clue what kind of treasure they have there.

They have destroyed the Natural Resources and beauty of the Country.

They will not be forgiven for their crimes.

Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for the interesting introduction and snow pictures. #1 and #2 blew me away! They are so pretty, almost look like paintings...I saw the similar structure in #4 in Aspen, Colorado. I went there 4 times already. Dizin has the potential to become just like Aspen if the government cares enough to invest and build the infrastructures. I was wondering what the army guys were doing over there? supervising?

Thanks for the photo collection!

thanks,

Photo 10: A view from the abandoned summit lodge.

Photo 14: You can just see the abandoned summit lodge at the top of the photo.

Photo 15: A road to Tehran which goes over a mountain pass near the top of Dizin. It's closed in winter, but you can ski down the switchbacks.
