Happiest people in the world?

Photo essay: Sunday in Copenhagen

Copenhagen always had a special place in my imagination. It was the first city I saw in the Western world. My visit was brief; several hours between flights gave us an opportunity just to see Tivoli and the City Hall square. That was decades ago. Going there for the second time this summer, I found myself looking for more than what I remembered. My observations were framed by curiosity about several Danish phenomena. What accounts for the Danes’ reputation as the happiest people in the world? Why are they at the epicenter of the bunker mentality against immigration? What happens to a country when it is no longer an empire? What could a nation of five and a half million contribute to global civilization which is also shaped by others with vastly larger populations and resources?>>>Full text

Happiest?!

by Lover Man (not verified) on

Happiest people? Define Happiness! It would probably Mean so many different things to so many different people in this world......Personally, if I ever go to Denmark, it would be to see some beautiful ladies exclusively! Call me shallow... LOL!

Their weather, landscapes, streets, people and their emotions are not on top of my list of preferences in life!
A short period in summer time is perhaps the most ideal time for me to visit and interact personally.

Nevertheless, Thank you Mr. Keyvan for sharing your interesting and educational observations, thoughts and report about this civilized country and nation. I hope in the future, you would do similar visits and reports on other countries and nations. Good Luck.

This happiness thing

by Marjan Zahed Kindersley on

With so many studies and surveys based on different criteria, I don't know which is which anymore. However, in the case of the Danes, it's pretty obvious that they get a full blast of endorphins with their cycling, in the security of an excellent welfare system, as do Scandinavian countries.

Thank you for your informative piece.

they must be only happy at home

by shirazie (not verified) on

Never met Scandinavians that were friendly or happy in US or Europe. Perhaps they miss home.

the Swedes are definitely very racist and rude. The Danes are goofy , arrogant. The Fins are very polite and cold

Scandinavian people (Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Iceland) are happy, very generous and educated.
