US allows NGOs to send money to quake-hit Iran

Limited to sending $300,000 each

BBC: The United States has said it will temporarily lift sanctions for US-based non-governmental organisations that want to send financial aid to help Iran's earthquake relief effort. The US Department of Treasury order comes after several US-Iranian non-governmental organisations (NGOs) pressed the White House to lift restrictions on sending money so that they could support charities on the ground.

After this month's earthquake, several US-Iranian aid organisations called on President Barack Obama to do the same. The National Iranian-American Council (NIAC), a Washington-based group which represents the interests of America's Iranian community, regularly pressed various government departments to lift sanctions for NGOs.

"As pleased as we are with this, it also goes to remind us that the White House and EU sanctions are not meant to hit ordinary people but the government," Trita Parsi, president of the NIAC said. "But in practice it's quite clear it's not that simple and it's the people who tend to get hit in such cases," Mr Parsi added.

Tuesday's ruling by the US Treasury will last for 45 days, until 5 October, and donors are limited to sending $300,000 each >>>

disagree

we know many enterprising Iranians in America and elsewhere will use this money for their own personal and or business use.  The money that finds its way into the Iran will be used by the regime as it sees fit; food and drugs for the Syrians!  Iranians will not see a dime of this.  The US knows this very well, but for propoganda purposes and by putting a cap on the number is trying to ensure that millions does not get syphoned to the Mullahs and their illegimite regime. Therefore i do nto agree with sending any money to Iran.  Let the Azeris know that the failure of this regime is causing them more hardship.
