Wrong expression I suppose, human rights issues come cheap nowadays.

But to me it's not whether ladies can go to a football match. To me it's about freedom of expression and freedom of assembly. If you put enough pressure onto the regime to get these two allowed, you can shake the very foundations of whatever the regime in place.

The Figaro article was published in my country today as well. Hélas, poorly translated. Have spent an entire day trying to explain to my countrymen that Ahmadinejad is not an anti-imperialist fighter they believe him to be. ;o))

My humble opinion is that the nuclear thing is a red herring. There is nothing to it but just hot air. Anyone knows that Iran is not in a position to use nuclear weapons. I just don't get this obsession. 

The human rights issue is totally not a priority for the "International" community. They do not care if Basiji were to murder half the population. I am very cynical about that. It never bothered them before nor will it bother them in the future.

Finally if this is what elections produce maybe we should go easy on them :-). Have longer terms and term limits. Like one single ten year term for President. That way we spare ourselves the 3 ring circus once every 4 years in USA and whatever in other nations.

I think it's about putting more pressure on IRI, it's not about war. Unless they are all suicidal.

What the Figaro article says is that geopolitics is running out of time. There are important elections coming up in 2012, so the "Iranian nuclear file" has to be dealt with before.  

Briefly translated. 

Putin has announced his presidential candidature. Tension is expected at the NATO summit 2012 (Chicago) regarding the anti-missile shield. Putin will certainly use the "Iranian card" to his own profit. So, deal with the Iranian file before the summit. 

Sarkozy's made the Iranian nuclear file one of his diplomatic priorities. However, he may lose the elections. And a new French government may not necessarily pursue the same path. Again, time factor.

Obama is facing serious internal problems. He may just as well take the Iranian file off his priority list. So, deal with the file before Obama decides there are other priorities.

Beijing - there is a new generation in power and there are elections coming up in Taiwan. Coupled, it may take the Iranian file down the Chinese priority list. 

Again, imho, it's all about pressure. Use the nuclear file to make sure the IRI will ease be it on the nuclear issue (if there is one), be it on the human rights issue.

As to what cards the IAEA really has up its sleeve we'll se on 17 Nov.

Before you get all steamed up:

• American people are too worried about jobs and retirement to care. Honest to God! They do not care if Saudi Ambassador got turned to a frog by AN's Jinn.  You do know he has been summoning them don't you.
• The main thing is to get Saudi afraid. The minimum is they buy more military junk. The maximum is they fund an attack.

Now got it? I live in America and work there. No one cares about Rushdie or Saudi (except for gas).  They also did not care about the hikers. I know I am all over the map but it is what I see. The agenda for Iranian American older diaspora is not that of American people. No matter how much you folks are angry they got other problems. When you do not have job security. Your home is under water with the mortgage. You don't care about Iran or Saudi or Rushdie. Hate to break the news but it is reality.

And remember that Emam passed his death fatwa in 1989, the year after he finally "drank the poisoned cup" and stopped refusing to end the war -- in other words exactly at the moment when the IRI needed to rebuild the country and repair its relations with the world. At the time, the Rushdie death fatwa had the opposite effect as that. Does that "make sense"? Of course, such things "make sense" using the logic of a bunch of murderous Islamist terrorist fanatics. Just like seeing Emam's face in the moon "made sense" to his brainwashed followers.

The first question that came up was: "WHY"?

Now it's obvious why Washington raised all this janjal over this 'incident'. It was for keeping the pro-war, pro Israel lobby and Saudis quiet for a while by pushing for more sanctions against Iran.

Fortunately the American public has not paid much attention to this 'Revelation'. We've been more concerned with bread and butter issues than a poorly written and executed B rated Hollywood movie.

I was just talking to some Israeli friends. The interesting part is their opinion for most part was this does not make sense. They were saying it may be a rouge element within IRI. But I was suggesting it may be Khamenei is getting too old.

You may argue that taking out political opponents did make sense. Putting fear in people made sense so they do not get out of line. Making people superstitious with Imam in the well does make sense. None of it is good but it made sense in a twisted way.

But since the 2009 elections nothing Khamenei does makes any sense. Why did he not let Mousavi take office. It was the perfect way to deflect attention and let the sanctions be reduced. Why did he go against his own interests: because he is old and senile.

not many things in iran's velayat faghih makes sense.  child execution doesn't make sense.  stoning women doesn't make sense. torturing people for their opinions doesn't make sense.  urging people to vote and not counting their votes doesn't make sense.  a prophet hiding in a well for hundreds of years doesn't make sense.  using thugs in france to kill bakhtiar doesn't make sense. using thugs for assassinations all over the world doesn't make sense.  a goofy car salesman assassinating the saudi diplomat and bystanders doens't make sense. et cetera.

Re: War between Saudi & Iran

Not likely more probably is a was funded by Saudi. The Saudi are too "tan parvar" due to years of oil money. They will not stand a chance against the Iranian forces. Howerver USA will.

The problem is who pays for it. The American people do not mind sending drones or shipes. They don't like getting soldiers killed or paying for it. The ideal situation is to have Saudi pay for the Americans to do the job. Then you get all the above benefits:

• Manufacturing in USA up by 200% specially war machines.
• Military hiring up.
• Full control of the situation by America.
• Oil prices not so high because Saudi fields will not be attacked. Nor would Iranian ones since America gets to control the "action".
• Besides USA gets to decide what it wants to do about a future Iranian regime and who is going to run it.
• No replacing Shia radicals with Wahabi radicals.

Meanwhile America will sell Saudi second rate weapons to "protect" them. It is a much more prudent course for America. Than to arm Saudi and risk them turning on America. Remember Saudi is one step from a Wahabi controlled radical regime.

The Saudi Plot makes Total Perfect Sense.

USA can not go to war with Iran for Financial/Economic and Political Reasons.  It needs to sell weapons, so instigating a war between Iran and Saudi Arabia would be a good solution to its economic problems.  This is the real aim of this story.

A war would increase US manufacturing by over 200% and help ease the current economic situation.  Even if oil prices double, the increase in manufacturing would offset that inflationary problem.  Jobs are an important social and political issue in the USA for now.

Discovering a plot is never intended to be a "causus belli", the plot succeeding would be, which is why the regime would not do something that goes against its own strategy for growth in political power and influence in the region at the risk of removing itself.

So Now we know the USA/UK want war between Saudi's and Iran.

Saudi is in no position to demand anything. The whole idea would be for USA to milk them. Remember Iraq? Saudi did not get much except for a pain in the ***. America does not pay any debts of that kind. They will take Saudi money and do as they want.

On the other hand they do listen to voters. With about 1 million Iranian Americans we have a a potentially big voice. Better use it.

Israel is a fact and that is why I propose an allience. Will it cost some people: yes. Maybe it will mean throwing Hizobollah and Hamas under the bus: too bad! I will do it in a minute as payback for their support for pro-Iranian people regime. Bibi wants Arab land Saudi want Iranian land. I rather make the deal with Bibi! 

I would even be willing to give up on the nuclear thing. With Solar power becoming the new thing Iranian deserts are fine places for power generators. Nuclear for investment in Solar. Good deal for all of us and have the Israeli do the financing. They get peace of mind; we get jobs and development. 

Look we are not in a position of strength. We might as well play the hand we got the best possible.

if they want the saudi pays for it and or even send troop for it ... then we better be prepared for something worse than the current Reesh O Pashem.. Saudi's are even better at playing the devils role in both the religion and the region.....  Who cares about the human rights in Iran as long as the security of our dear friendly state, the Isreal is guaranteed ... as long as BiBI is happy so does the rest of the world ....

I am not joining anything just being a realist. Nothing you or I say is going to make a difference. They will do whatever they want regardless. I am just trying to get a feel for what they have in mind.

If they are to do it then I admit between: Rajavi; Rish o Pashm and RP I prefer the last. Look I don't want anyone hurt. But if Iranians were to pay the price we must get a return. To me a return to Monarchy is the best possible option right now.

Iranian Americans may not be able to stop this thing. But we may influence the course of it. At least let us work together to get a half decent government. Maybe we need a poll of how many IC readers want what:

• Reza Pahlavi.
• Rajavi
• IRI light aka Islamic Democracy.
• Secular Republic
• Something else?
• Disintegration.

Very interesting maybe they are really preparing for war. It is a hard sell for sure. Here is one possible theory:

• Tons of "revelations" to prepare the people for it.
• Scare the Saudi to finance it or much of it.
• Rile up people in Iran to demonstrate.

In response Khamanei gathers his Basiji in nice groups in Tehran and other major cities. Ready to hit the people who are demonstrating. This provides a perfect target for NATO. Hit the Basiji and let people do the rest. It may work.

The one thing left it a leader. What see if Reza Pahalavi gets a lot of air time. If he does we may have a renewal of Pahlavi dynasty in the works. I don't mind; heck I would even support him!
