"Don't You Remember Haji" is from Kiosk's new album "Natijeh Mozakerat". "Kiosk's eagerly awaited fifth album is a collection of catchy songs with influences ranging from gypsy jazz to blues to rock, complemented by lyrics which provide a stinging sociopolitical satire of Iran today."

Re history

by Arj on

Dear Mr. Sobhani, no need for apologies (at least none on my account) for what were (or are) your thoughts. One's opinions aren't necessarily going to accomodate all entities across the board. However, I hope you understand that disagreeing with one's opinions in a public forum such as this does not connote personal enmity! Moreover, it's understandable that the secret to successful art is to reach the social common denominator, and currently the political left is not a part of that. Nonetheless, best of luck to you and your bandmates!

Love to put my hand on one of those Cubans, unfortunately here only thing comes close to Cubans is Demonic Republic Cigars, still it is good guilty cigar, I like Maduro (dark leaves). I prefer red wine over white any time hope we could drink that in the middle of a place that it makes us feel complete (as Iranians, of course : )

My Apologies

by Arash Sobhani on

If I had my preference I would choose this video (which was done by a friend and not an official Kiosk video):

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZjZ_YvUXU0

As the lyricist I am very glad to receive such detailed responses here on Iranian.com. I hope everyone understands this is a recollection of "my" thoughts and feelings regarding one particular point our history. Thanks for the feedback.

Re history

by Arj on

Dear JJ, I didn't mean to hit your soft spot for Kiosk! This is just an observation! When a group who claims to be politically conscious, and even more importantly, when referring to a period in a significant part of a nation's history, overlooking some aspects while overexposing others, is either out of ignorance or through ulterior motives! Bear in mind that I'm not condemning them for that, for they are free to choose their career path, and who am I to judge them?! Again, I'm simply making an observation that seems intrguing to me!

Dear RG, it's not just in the video, their lyrics contain the same notion! It seems that certain aspects of our history are not as celebrated as some in our dominant expat pop culture!

Jahanshah Javid

It's a song, not a Wikipedia entry

by Jahanshah Javid on

A) This video is not an official Kiosk video. It's made by a fan (not a film maker) using images from google.

B) This is a song, not an historic account of every single crime. It's trying to make a point about the criminal nature of the regime, back when Rafsanjani had lots of power.

Do you want Kiosk to include footnotes and documents too? :)

Roozbeh_Gilani

very well spotted Arj.

by Roozbeh_Gilani on

Couple of other obvious  ommisions were the lack of presence of any texts describing the two execution scenes. Both I believe were in Kurdestan province, one speceficaly in Mahabad. Both show execution of left/marxist opponents of the Islamist regime. And of course we all know who are burried at Khavaraan...

I certainly hope all these were caused due to the video clip  producers' lack of knowledge of Iran's recent history, and nothing else....

Re referencing

by Arj on

Dropping Khavaran's name (which signifies the massacre of thousands) quickly along with Behesht Zahra while individually showcasing pro-Shah icons sounds more like pandering to certain pop culture tendencies! Actually, nothing wrong with that, that kind of pandering is in nowadays and brings them more popularity among the expats!

Jahanshah Javid

Khavaran

by Jahanshah Javid on

The song specifically mentions Khavaran cemetery, which is a direct reference to the 1988 massacre of political prisoners. Forward to 01:48.

Anahid Hojjati

I believe people involved with this song and also video

by Anahid Hojjati on

don't know their Iran history during late 1970s to mid 1980s very well. My guess is that they were not born at that time or were very young. Additionaly, I believe that later on, they never got a proper education in details of politics in those years.

Musically, I like other Kiosk songs better.

Arj

Selective iconography!

by Arj on

It's amazing that they mention and show images of monarchist icons who have been murdered by IRI, yet no mention of 1988 massacre of political prisoners in which Rafsanjani played a central role!

Anahid Hojjati

I think just like millions of people

by Anahid Hojjati on

loved Gogoosh, even Islamic officials liked her. Gogoosh had also been entertaining people from when she was a very little kid. so may be she was in a sense relieved to live her life for years in quiet. She was not allowed to perform when she was in Iran so I don't see anything fishy. Just an entertainer who was loved (and is) by many.

Good Tune

by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on

Good Meaning.  Tough to realize the mass brutality, hurt, corruption etc behind each of these Haji's.  Creative way to get Rafsanjani, the guy can never escape to any country if regime falls.  All his monies invested around the world, dubai, canada by him will be returned most likely.

Jahanshah Javid

Kiosk's new album shows they are better than ever. I could do without the remakes of classic English-language songs, but the original tracks are terrific and speak for our times.

Dear red wine

by عموجان on

To my surprise at this age my digestive system still is very reliable, except when I drink to much Doogh.

Googoosh wouldn’t be a successful Iranian female artist if she thought every body seeing her art, as she wants them to see it. When you as an artist publish your work, it is out there for people to interpret as they see it. Still it puzzle me for such an open and modern artist (I think of her work classic) before 1979 were able to survive this regime who make life miserable for any body who even took picture with Pahlavis not mentioning her vodka drinking video (which I liked). Beside who am I to criticize an Icon, sometime questions pop in your head just trying to find an answer for it.

I know for fact she has a song named Agha it came out after 1979 and I have heard it many times, the belief in Iran was she sang it for Agha (I know some call their father, Agha). As we know she was one of few artist who stayed in Iran and was able to work after IR took over.  Rumor or not my impression of her is, she liked Islamic Republic at the begging but like many after they saw the real Islam she moved on. After all she is a public figure and entertainer we all like to know what she sings or dose.

But where is the music? This sounds like it's just a poetry recitation. Sorry, two thumbs down to the music.

Listened to this song on two differnt channels.

by Ari Siletz on

My Kiosk fan channel showed anger and bitterness over Rafsanjani's crimes against our country. Yaadam hast! My history channel showed the familiar ravenous lust for justice that blinded us into a no-compromise position with the patriot Shapour Bakhtiar. Yaadam rafteh bood!

Not a single sign of torture, beating or any ill treatment on this thieving, murdering islamist's happy smiley face. Whilst at the same time,  any supporter of any secular opposition group was tortured to death or shot by SAVAK  for being a "communist" .
