Moftaki-e Aziz,

Thank you for the link with regard to the Great Mostafa Arab's interview.

It brought tears to my eyes, and at the same time I recalled great memories of my childhood.

My favorite player at that time and for ever was the Great Homayoun Behzadi (Sar Talaie). He scored in every game of the 1968 Asian Cup (4 Goals),

Thank you Again.

Salutations to ALL the TRUE Sons and Daughters of IRAN.

I watched the game, sitting next to Iran's bench,as though it was yesterday. My dad & his officers were so happy when Iran scored the second goal that all of them threw their hats & walkie talkies into the air!!!.It wasn't only because of national pride, but also fror the safety of nearly 2000 Jewish Iranians who were there (nimkat choobi section of Amjadieh)!!.If I find the pictures of that day, will definitely post them.

Red Wine- Aziz I checked Wikipedia. It is not always accurate

by mehdi2009 on

Sharabe-e Sorkh-e Aziz,

Thank you for your comment, and Javab-e shoma ham rooye Chesm-e Man.

Wikipedia is a great source, however it is written and edited by regular people, and it sometimes have minor errors and mistakes such as the one which you have eluded to.

I don't want to pat my own back, however, I have (or at least used to have) a photographic memory, and I used to read Kayhan Varzeshi religiously since I was a child. During the Championships, Kayhan Varzeshi was being published on a daily basis (few pages, not the whole Magazine), and my father used to buy them for me everyday. We made them into a yearly archive, and years 1345 (1966), 1347 (1968) and 1349 (1970) are still very dear to me.

I was 9 and half years old when this Championship took place, and I can even list the starting players with their numbers and clubs for you. Well, here it goes anyways:

1- Aziz Asli (Daraie)

2- Mehrab Shahrokhi (Daraie)

3- Hassan Habibi (PAS) Captain of the team

4- Jafar Kashani (Shahin)

5- Mostafa Arab (Daraie)

6- Parviz GhelichKhani (Kian)

7- Ali Jabbari (Rah-Ahan) He might have signed with Taj before or at that time.

8- Hossein kalani (Shahin)

9- Hossien Farzami (Taj)

10- Homayoun Behzadi (Shahin)

11- Akbar Eftekhari (Daraie)

20- Fariborz Esmaieli (Oghab)

Asghar Sharafi (PAS) I can't remember his number unfortunately.

Our reserve Goal Keeper was Number 12-Faramarz Zelli (PAS)

You see being there in person makes a great deal of difference, than going by somebody else's account.

Salutations to All the True Sons and Daughters of Iran.

This video helps

by Simorgh5555 on

This video helps demonstrate that Iran and Israel not only do not have any reason whatsoever to fight each other but they share a common interest in the Middle East to combat political Islam.

During the rule of HM Mohammed Reza Pahlavi, Iran's relationship was cordial most of the time although there was never fully fledged  diplomatic relations.

Israel has bad and good policies like any other country but its creation was justified.

I genuinely believe that once this mob of terrorist occupiers are banished from Iran we can forge a long lasting alliance built on mutual respect and security within the region.

Dorud/Shalom.

thanks for the thorough analysis of the soccer situation at that time and of the game. I have very dim memories of the final since I was too young a kid but remember that Tehran was in a kind of fesitivity for the victory.

The video was too short. I wish there was a longer video showing more of that game.

Correction to your statements

by mehdi2009 on

Dear Red Wine,

There are a few details that you have gravely misplaced in your post.

1) Iran played with a 4-2-4 formation which was used by most of the leading teams in the world in the 1960s.

2) Iran played Burma who were the 1966 Asian games Champions in the previous game. They were at that time one of the best teams in Asia, and Iran beat them 3-1. In that game Burma kicked our players to a pulp, and Homayoun Behzadi, Ali Jabbari, Hossein Kalani and Mehrab Shahrokhi were BADLY injured, and Behzadi and Jabbari could not start the final game against Israel. In their place Iran's Head Coach Bayati started Asghar Sharafi and Fariborz Esmaieli. Easmaieli was later ejected from the game along with Israel's Captain Young.

3) Burma had already beaten Israel 1-0, and therefore Israel had to beat Iran in order to claim the championship, and if anybody was playing ROUGH it was the Israelis. They kicked Kalani who was already injured time and again, and when Homayoun Behzadi was intrduced (with the help of Injections to his injured knee) they also kicked the crap of him as well. However, after Mordekhai Spiegler had given Israelis the lead, Homayoun scored the tying and Parviz Ghelichkhani scored the winning goal for Iran.

4) Parviz GhelichKhani was a member of Kian football Club (along with his good Buddy Ali Parvin), and after the Asian Cup Championship was sent to the Taj Football Club by Timsar Khosravani!!!!! Kian, Daraie  and Shahin Football Clubs were shockingly desolved after the competition!!!!! (Daraie had 4 starters along with injured star Jalal Talebi, Shahin had 3 and Kian had of course Parviz Ghelichkhani as starters).

I was in elementary school back then, and everyday followed every game as a matter of life and death, and therefore I remember everything as if it happened yesterday. It was one of the happiest times for me personally, and the country as a whole.

Salutations to ALL the TRUE Sons and Daughters of IRAN.
