French researcher on Iran's nuclear intentions

The Iranian program reminds him of the Pakistani and Indian approach

Bruno Tertrais, researcher and author on strategic affairs, terrorism and proliferation, talks about the topic of nuclear proliferation at the Diplomatic Academy Vienna. During his lecture, he also gives some insights into the Iranian Nuclear Crisis. Mr. Tertrais himself has a pessimistic view regarding the intentions of Iran. The Iranian program reminds him of the Pakistani and Indian approach on getting the nuclear bomb. Bruno Tertrais works at the Foundation for Strategic Research in France.

There is one BIG difference monsieur

by MM on

India and Pakistan, as well as Israel, have not signed NPT and never allowed inspectors in.

"Since 1967 when the NPT was being drafted and opened for signature, Pakistan has been maintaining that it would sign the NPT if India also signs the Treaty. Its position is the same with respect to the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) as well. The CTBT was opened for signature in 1996 but has not entered into force till date."

I know history too!

I am personally against Nuclear enrichment. But I agree with the
speaker that the issue is a principal issue for the west. And I do
know the history of US/Europe vs colored people of the third world.

So
just like the speaker I will use the history as my guide. Except in my
understandings of history there are many more data points than the
speaker that has only one or at best two (India and Pakistan). I see
the conflict as yet another case of US/Europe trying to maintain its
dominance. A replay of past to use of hypothetical to justify its
military/economic policies.

The
real question is whether we are living based on the speeches/powerpoint
presentation of fear mungers with vested interested or are we dealing
with realities and rights of nations under treaties.

If there are
IAEA inspections and Iran is adhering to its obligation, there is
nothing else to discuss. If there are specifics that it is violating,
then lets put all the data and questions in public and let the experts
analyze them. I don't give a damn about his opinions, if he there are
real allegations, then air them let the world and Iranians judge them.

If the speaker is genuinely interested in peace then he should be even more concern about nuclear weapons of Israel.

BTW, I am equally cynic about Iranian government, in that they are using the emotional issue of inalienable
right to rally the troops. I see them as not so much interested in
nuclear weapons, as just use this as national diversion.
