touchIRAN.com: In Iran, women have made remarkable strides in education in the last decades — 65 percent of college undergraduates are female and 70 percent of graduate students are enrolled in medicine. Yet legally, women cannot travel freely without the permission of a male relative and face formidable obstacles when divorcing their husbands. We explore the tensions between the expectations of many highly educated young Iranian women and the realities of their lives. video credit: worldfocus.org

Is'nt it ironic?
by faryarm on Fri Sep 18, 2009 06:46 PM PDTIs'nt it ironic?
That the wife of the First PM of the IR should use a Bahai Quote?
lets remain hopeful that they really mean it..
best

Thank you, Faryarm, for the beautiful quote!
by yolanda on Wed Sep 16, 2009 06:57 PM PDT"The world of humanity is possessed of two wings: the male and the female. So long as these two wings are not equivalent in strength, the bird will not fly."
I recall Mousavi' wife mentioned the similar analogy during the campaign.
thanks,
yolanda

"... humanity is possessed of two wings; the male and female.."
by faryarm on Wed Sep 16, 2009 09:10 AM PDTIt should be interesting for Iranians to know that the following spiritual principle was first given to Iran and Iranians in the late Nineteenth Century;well before the rise of womens movements in the West.
"The world of humanity is possessed of two wings: the male and the female. So long as these two wings are not equivalent in strength, the bird will not fly.
Until womankind reaches the same degree as man, until she enjoys the same arena of activity, extraordinary attainment for humanity will not be realized; humanity cannot wing its way to heights of real attainment. When the two wings . . . become equivalent in strength, enjoying the same prerogatives, the flight of man will be exceedingly lofty and extraordinary." [6]

Down with current Islamic establishment of Iran
by XerXes on Wed Sep 16, 2009 08:04 AM PDTFvck the Islamic Establishment of Iran. We have dropped so low. we had so many dreams and now have to be happy that our women drive race cars?
Man if Shah was here, we would be discovering space by now and our women would be our best scientists. I am so angry that i wish i could just shoot and kill khamenei and his gang.
Come on, American Dream,
by MiNeum71 on Wed Sep 16, 2009 03:16 AM PDTThe second pic of Shah's Mom was taken, when she was over 80 years old. Do you know anyone pretty at that age? ;)
Census lady is incorrect
by American Dream on Tue Sep 15, 2009 09:02 PM PDTThe Census lady said that before the Iranian Revolution women were judged on their looks. The women's good looks would lead to better treatment. That is not an absolute truth. Has the census lady ever seen Mohammad Reza Pahlavi's mother?
//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tadj_ol-Molouk
By the way, that photo of her is a good photo of her.
this is another photo of the Shah's mother:

Interesting to note:
The Shah's mother was ethnicly Azerbaijani. Iranian Azerbaijani women, especially those from Urumia are usually attractive. The Shah's mother must have been an ugly Azari, which seldomly happens to be the case for Iranian Azari wome.
It sounded like
by yolanda on Tue Sep 15, 2009 06:02 PM PDTIt sounded like the people being interviewed were not allowed to speak freely! Their answers are pretty predictable! It is super sad that girls are not allowed to enter soccer stadium, not even in the separate (segregated) sections! It is no fun at all. Boooooring!
