Cyrus "Buket" Yazdani

Daredevil tagger gets nearly 4 years in prison

Cyrus Yazdani, a 26-year-old San Jose State graduate, gained a near-cult following after a YouTube video was posted of him vandalizing a sign 20 feet above the busy 101 Freeway.

Los Angeles Times: "Buket," the daredevil tagger who gained Internet notoriety for his brazen, daylight tagging of a sign over the 101 Freeway and vandalism of a Metropolitan Transportation Authority bus, was sentenced Thursday to three years and eight months in state prison. Cyrus Yazdani, a 26-year-old San Jose State graduate who has developed a near-cult following, was on probation after pleading guilty in December to 32 felony vandalism counts. In July, he pleaded no contest to one count of felony vandalism and accepted financial responsibility for five vandalism incidents. Four of the counts were dismissed Thursday. Yazdani must pay $117,196 in restitution. Los Angeles County sheriff's transit investigators arrested Yazdani in May after Buket tags appeared on the 7th Street and Cesar Chavez bridges and in the 4200 block of South Broadway >>>

Do some research first

by PRINCEpersia on

Do some research first before you ignorant people start posting stupid comments. That picture posted is NOT of Cyrus, that picture is of a rapper from dialted peoples who just happens to be talking in the beginning of the famous youtube video of Cyrus tagging. Cyrus is not a wanna be "mexican", and you all sound like a bunch of idiots, since none of you know him. It is easy to hide behind a  computer and talk about something you have no idea about, whether it be graffiti or him personally.  Why don't you read something about the guy first: //buketsstory.blogspot.com/

One thing is for certain, he is NOT talking like anyone Hispanic.

This moron has adopted the so-called "style" of inner-city black youths. What's worse is that he thinks he's cool.

What he has yet to realize is that once he's locked up, this guy who thinks he is from the ghetto is going to get his ass kicked by everyone. By the blacks, the Mexicans, the whites, everyone.

I bet that at his first parole hearing he will be speaking like Alistair Cooke or William F. Buckley.

most Iranian men in L.A. look mexican.  A lot of Iranians there even take up spanish phrases in their conversation.  For instance they say, "Salaam essay, como estas?".  That means hello, how are you?  A lot of Iranian men in L.A. even walk around with a bottle of hot sauce in their right pants pocket.  It has just become the cool thing.

The vanity of graffatti, is such an unfortunate event, yet represents a form of rebellion or rejection of the authority that is.

His ass is gonna be the buket now in US prisons.

One word to my fellow Iranians around the world, quit acting like you are some kind of pot smoking gang banging Mexican of afro-american hustler. Just be yourself and act Iranian, that is hard enough.

Ari Siletz

probably wrong photo, sentence too long

by Ari Siletz on

The monetary restitution may be appropriate, but a four year sentence seems too harsh. Anyway, the photo above is probably of Los Angeles based Michael Perretta of the rap group "Evidence." This image is supposedly the real Yazdani. Here's some "Buket" graffiti.  Not bad at all! Note the human-body and face-like characteristics of his lettering. In many cases each letter of the alphabet looks like part of a crowd mingling among the other people-like letters. Putting aside the vandalism issue for the moment, the art of graffiti is about showing anti-establishment courage; the higher the risk of getting caught, the more intense the art's expression. In this sense, Yazdani has broken a world record.  He may inspire more political graffiti in Iran, where it may actually do some good these days.
