THE HAGUE -- Officials from Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America have been engaged in discussions at The Hague over issues in Afghanistan. These unprecedented talks have led the two sides to raise other matters of mutual interest, namely the difficult state of our relations. We have come to the conclusion that our two nations need to work together in order to reduce tensions in the Middle East and take steps toward peace and cooperation.
Our countries have been at odds for too long. We have important differences but we realize that the only way to address them is for our governments to be in regular contact and seek solutions to mutual and regional issues. As a first step, we have agreed to re-establish full diplomatic relations which were severed three decades ago.
Beginning today Mr. Haji Firooz will be representing the Islamic Republic of Iran as ambassador to Washington and Dr. Azar Nafisi will serve as the U.S. ambassador to Tehran. These distinguished individuals have been carefully selected for their deep understanding of political and cultural matters in our respective countries and we are confident that they will take important steps in rebuilding ties between our two great nations.

by Mehrban on Wed Apr 01, 2009 07:29 PM PDTAP- Haji firooz refrained from an immediate response but sources close to the ministry implied that he may have no choice but to wait until the June elections before he knows if he will bang on the tambourine according to the conservative interpratation or the reformist interpratation of the Sharia law.
Unfortunately, according to the same sources, authenticity of play as questioned by Ms. Nafisy has been viewed by the office of the President as another American interference with the internal affairs of Iran and contrary to Iranian aspirations and hence another apology has been added to the list of requirements for peace.

by Suomynona on Wed Apr 01, 2009 05:13 PM PDTAt a news conference after announcement of the joint ambassadorship, Ms. Nafisi was quoted questioning the credentials of her counterpart:
"One has to wonder whether Haji Firooz is willingly and authentically playing the instrument, or that maybe the Islamic regime is complicit in relentlessly compelling him through dogmatic teachings of the Sharia to incessently continue banging on the tambourine. I think this needs to be analyzed and studied further if we are to have a chance for genuine peace." she said.

Appearing in Guinness Book of Records
by Anonymously fooled (not verified) on Wed Apr 01, 2009 08:18 AM PDTAnd in a strange twist of fate, Azar Nafisi becomes the first person who has both served as Iran's Ambassador to US (providing distinguished counsel to the War On Terror Administration) and now will be serving as American Ambassador to Iran (during the Yes We Can Administration). She is a woman for all seasons, all cities (not just Tehran), and all administrations (and countries).
