In their first East Coast appearance, Kiosk performed in an intimate setting at Johnny D's Uptown Restaurant & Music Club in Somerville, MA. The 2-day event was sponsored by the Crown Center for Middle East Studies at Brandeis University and the Center for Middle Eastern Studies at Harvard University, and featured a panel discussion with Kiosk members on Iranian Underground Music moderated by historian Dr. Naghmeh Sohrabi. "Ay Yarom Biya" is a popular song from Tajikistan that was made famous by the late great Tajik musician Mubaraksha . This is Kiosk's tribute to Mubaraksha.

Jamming
by Ajam (not verified) on Wed Nov 07, 2007 10:03 PM CSTIt indeed looks like a jamming session, but that doesn't take away from the fact that these guys are talented and trying. They have taken a new angle at covering the shish-o-hasht songs as opposed to the all-too-familiar tchno/dance. Their laid-back, offbeat raggae take is refreshing. Of course, they'll get more organized as they gain experience.
I also loved the tajiK guy's version, it's beautifull. This shows the versatile nature and adaptability of Persian music as it could be rendered in almost any genre!
Performance is fair...
by Aquaman (not verified) on Tue Nov 06, 2007 08:59 PM CSTIt seems a lot of our expert critics on this clip forgot the way it was filmed !!! What kind of sound quality did you expect from this amature camara & camera-man/woman ?
Kiosk might have butchered the original song by the original singer, but it's possible that "The Original" wasn't as universal as Kiosk's version... I was a professional DJ back in mid 90s. These are a type of music I could play & share with my non-Iranian audience around the world... Places (lounges/Bars)in South of France (Nice, Cannes & Antibe) & in Spain... I can tell you Kiosk style of music is welcomed in Latin & some other European countries & cultures... What an excellent way of manifesting & sharing our modern Iranian Mentality & Culture with non-Iranians around the globe... Good Job & Good luck to Kiosk & other Iranian Musicians & fans who put us back on the right and positive map of the world...

baaad in variye..
by macoolim (not verified) on Tue Nov 06, 2007 12:51 PM CSTKiosk has one good song "esgh e sor'at" the rest ..well how should i say it..they try to copy rock bands like Dire Streits etc....they don't have catchy tunes so in their concerts they sound like crap..in OC they had to bring Ardeshir Farah to boost their concert ,.. and all these new fans are pretending to like something that is not so up beat.. so now we have a "gheri" song for all the little Persians who got to shake that booty to attract some dude with "abroohay e badashte" !! lol... Kiosk is making money so they have to jump on the band wagon...

Gher?
by khodemun1 (not verified) on Tue Nov 06, 2007 09:51 AM CSTmrmrtooootoooo,
Gher has nothing to do with this.
The performance was a murderous rendition of the original material. You say you like it? You say Kiosk is trying to eat crap? Fine, that's your opinion. My opinion is that after listening to the original performance, the clip posted here sounds terrible.
Liaghat? wow. Reactionary politics comes from people like you.

cool song
by naneh noghli (not verified) on Tue Nov 06, 2007 09:19 AM CSTI like their rendition of the song and it goes with their style.
.
.
As far as "obnoxious girls" screaming, the lead singer is the one who invites people to sing along anyways, so a little screaming is to be expected!
.
.
And for the person, who calls this place just a bar, the "ommoli" mentality needs to understand that Johnnny D's is a hip place for cool bands such as Jazz, Blues or other styles.
sorry guys but....
by khodemun1 (not verified) on Tue Nov 06, 2007 07:56 AM CSTHere is another take I found...ignore the images...
Looking at the original, I think Kiosk butchered the song! They need to work on their live performances. And they need a coach who isn't there to flatter them, this performance was really terrible.

Looks like they're jamming!
by khodemun1 (not verified) on Tue Nov 06, 2007 07:42 AM CSTRustam a bunch of guys jamming in a bar ke dige in harfaro nadare! Although I agree they need to find some harsh critiques. I wonder how much people paid to see this?...
They are original in comparison to what Iranian music has given us in the last decade or so.
In the future, it would be appreciated if the original work is posted as well, it took me a while to find it since the name mentioned in the article isn't the correct spelling:

Badakhshaan rules!))
by Rustam (not verified) on Tue Nov 06, 2007 02:04 AM CSTMusic is nothing close to the original, performance is even worse. (seems like they know it))
But, for the sake of fairness, some credit should be given. After all, they remembered a great singer.
His countrymen truely love him, but I didn't know he was famous anywhere else. It's a pleasant surprise.
Well, I suppose, now his songs are common Iranian heritage.

Obnoxious Persian fans...
by Aquaman (not verified) on Mon Nov 05, 2007 06:27 PM CSTI really like Kiosk. My problem is with some Obnoxious Persian fans (especially the chicks... lol)They always want to be the center of attention & Hijack the whole show by their abnormal screams, shouts & lousy dances. I mean go to one of these Persian concerts & you will see /hear for yourself... It's all about them and no respect for others...
These Obnoxious people in some cases don't even know the artist & the music well!!! As long as they can manifest their own deficiencies in public, they are perfectly fine.... Way to go with ruining the Artistic performances for public and mistake that for freedom of speech & expression!!! As it can be heard on this clip...
