by Majid Naficy

This poem was first published in Persian in Sorrow of the Border (anduh-e marz) San Diego 1989, and then in English in Muddy Shoes (Beyond Baroque Books 1999) as well as Poets Against the War edited by Sam Hamill (Nation Books 2003). ENGLISH TEXT

Love Me No More

by Abol H Danesh (not verified) on

I truly enjoyed this poem for its superb music and its awesome arrangement of object personfication.

However, don't reject this love (oil) so hastely and so harshly ... instead adopt a new motto toward it and the motto is:

Oh oil ...Oh my old love... times has changed... I have developed and matured now and therefore know a lot better... from three on "I don't love you but I am not going to leave you either"

Dear Majid

I really enjoyed your poem. Indeed, the biggest curse the people of this region faced was the curse of Oil. What has the average Middle Easterner gained from oil? Nothing, but more tyranny and occupation.

Nami khahamet ay naft...
