* U.S. offers Moscow carrot to cut Iran cooperation, (Reuters) - The United States has offered Russia the chance to expand its lucrative launches of foreign satellites if it cracks down on its sales of missile technology to Iran, U.S. officials said on Monday. * Iran warship makes friendly visit to Saudi Arabia, (Reuters) - An Iranian warship has docked in a Saudi Arabian port on a friendly visit for the first time since Iran's 1979 Islamic revolution, a newspaper said on Monday. The Khark logistics warship, carrying members of Iran 's Revolutionary Guards and students and professors from the Iranian navy, was met by Saudi military officials when it arrived in the Red Sea port of Jeddah on Saturday, the Tehran Times said... full text
* Persian Gulf Arabs laud positive trends in Iran ties, (Reuters) - Gulf Arab foreign ministers on Sunday welcomed improving ties with Iran but lamented the lack of progress in efforts to resolve a dispute with Tehran over three Gulf islands. The ministerial council of the six-member Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), at the end of a regular meeting in Riyadh, also welcomed a deal struck by U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan to end a crisis with Iraq and demanded that Baghdad abide by U.N. Security Council resolutions... full text

* Central Asia and the Caucasus: Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS) in Tehran will hold the sixth annual seminar on Central Asia and the Caucasus on April 27- 28, 1998. The theme of this year's seminar is "Central Asia and the Caucasus: The Role of Regional Powers in Conflict Resolution and Economic Development." In this seminar, a variety of related subjects including the important issue of the Caspian Sea basin with regards to viewpoints of Iran, Russia, China, and Turkey should be discussed and explored. The Purpose of this seminar is to deepen understanding and to foster an exchange of views among specialists and scholars who are mainly interested in the appraisal of events in the region.
