Going back in time to pick a poetic name

The Iranian

Her voice shaking with joy, my friend shared her happiness with me. After eight long years waiting to become a grandma, she had just learned that her daughter was expecting ...

We talked for a while, sharing experiences about being a mom for the first time, enjoying our children, and things we wished we had done! She then asked if I could give her some ideas about names. Her daughter was looking for a bi-cultural name that was not too common, such as Sara, Layla or Mona. >>> GO TO FEATURE

Outlook

Net is a vital weapon for free speech
The Internet is the most important communications breakthrough of our time.

By Derek Moscato
The Vancouver Sun
March 23, 2000

Life is easy in the new world, as evidenced by how most folks here spend their time online. Ask your average Vancouverite what he or she is tuning into on the Web these days, and chances are the answer you'll get will revolve around the gratuitous: stocks, sex, sports and soap opera updates. Perhaps some online gaming or a software download.

Chances are you won't hear of a battle against government censorship, or a search for family and friends lost in one of the wars being waged around the globe. But don't be fooled >>> FULL TEXT

* Satan incarnate

Nariman N. writes: Oh please. You are either blind or unwilling to accept reality here ["Can't just fake it"]. It t is true that we don't know Mr. Kasra's wife's side of this story, if there even is one, but it does not take a psychiatrist to realize that some of these Iranian women -- mainly those that just come over from Iran, are Satan incarnates running around.

It is an undeniable fact that many of these Iranian women change DRASTICALLY once they reach American soil, DRASTICALLY. All of a sudden they have all this freedom and they don't know what to do with it. This often times leads to very unacceptable behavior on their part, and eventually leads to the marriage falling apart.

I have seen it personally TIME AND TIME AGAIN. I don't doubt for a second that what Mr. Kasra says is true ["She changed overnight"]. Because his story is nothing new. There are thousands of Iranian women just like his ex-wife out there. In my opinion, they deserve nothing more than to be sent back to Iran where they belong.

* Tired of not getting along

L. Brown writes: I am tired of our countries -- the U.S. and Iran -- not getting along. I was very pleased to hear that maybe open trade of Iranian products in the U.S. can occur ["Ball in Iran's court"].

I do not know much about Iran and it's people. Only what I hear on the news on TV . It's time for the blocked doors of both counties to open. I am interested in learning and knowing the people, culture, art, living views of the people.

I would buy Iranian products if they are good products to have in my home. I hope we can start trading and talking. It will not hurt our countries' individuality.

Savage

The ... conduct with which both defendants (Iran and its ministry of intelligence) are charged, savage and cruel by any civilized standards, would surely merit'' an award of punitive damages intended to punish and deter misconduct.
