A trial or a circus?
By Pedram Moallemian
June 16, 2000
The Iranian
The trial of thirteen Iranians as alleged spies has ended and a verdict
is expected soon. Their religion or even political belief should matter
very little, as they are Iranian, regardless...
Some say, "But wait. Didn't they confess?" Oh yes! and I am
certain the "confessions" were done without any pressure, while
they were fully informed of their legal rights and with their lawyers present.
Please, give all of us a break! If their "confessions" are taken
at face value, then every confession made by Iranian dissidents over the
last 20 years must also have been valid. >>>

Email to an old classmate
By Sheema Kalbasi
June 15, 2000
The Iranian
Maryam and I were classmates in Iran. She and her parents had lived
abroad for years and after the revolution they left for the U.S... Years
went by and my great grandmother -- my little green-eyed Bibi-jun -- passed
away. I went to Iran to pay my respect. Maryam and I had always thought
about our school years in Iran and about going back to visit our past.
When I got back from my trip I send her this email to let her know how
people in Iran were calibrating the new millennium >>>

A morning in London
Getting to work English-style
By Shahin Shahin
June 13, 2000
The Iranian
It is about 5:30 in the morning. Another restless night has passed.
I battled the demons of darkness all night long. I was so close to saving
Cindy Crawford from the clutches of the two-headed monster resembling Woody
Allen with Margaret Thatcher's hairdo and Madeleine Albright. I am awake.
But I wonder: Why is it that when you feel most comfortable in bed, you
have to get up? >>>
