April 25, TEHRAN, Iran (AP) - A severe drought in Iran 's arid Sistan-Baluchestan
province is forcing villagers to leave their homes, the official Islamic
Republic News Agency reported Tuesday. It quoted Adib Darvishi, governor
of the city of Nikshahr in the eastern province, as saying that 157 families
from nine villages have either already left or are in the process of doing

* Iran offers to build plants for Jordan water project: paper
AMMAN, April 25 (AFP) - Iran has offered Jordan technical assistance
it says will lower the cost of the planned Disi project to pump water from
southern Jordan to the capital, a newspaper reported on Tuesday. "Our
offer will allow the project to be completed more cheaply than the estimated
figure of between 600 and 700 million dollars," Iran's ambassador

* Iran to partially privatise oil sector
TEHRAN, April 23 (Reuters) - Iran plans to privatise major segments
of its oil and petrochemical sectors as part of a drive to modernise the
ageing industries, Oil Minister Bijan Zangeneh said on Sunday. ``Our goal
is to bring the energy industry up to date and increase productivity,''

* Iran seeks foreign help to develop oil industries
TEHRAN, April 23 (AFP) - Iran, the second largest producer in OPEC,
wants to bring in foreign firms to help develop the industry to exploit
its vast oil reserves, Deputy Oil Minister Mehdi Hosseini said in an interview
with AFP Sunday. "We hope to identify the technological capacities
of the petroleum industry and promote cooperation with foreign firms in
this field," Hosseini, who is responsible for international contracts,

* Richardson still sees stable oil prices
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Despite a recent rise in crude oil prices, U.S.
Energy Secretary Bill Richardson said Thursday he thinks prices will stabilize
as additional OPEC oil supplies hit the market While oil prices are now
$8 a barrel lower than a month ago, this week they were at their highest
