How to purchase World Cup tickets in Canada
FROM: Mehrdad Masoudi (Canadian Soccer Association)
Dear friends,
Here is the complete World Cup ticket information with the actual prices and so on ... Please note that the deadline to place your order is January 12.
Due to Canada's failure to qualify for France '98, we will receive a limited number of tickets and we don't know how many. FIFA will advise us sometimes in mid-March as to how many tickets we will receive. As a result, the C.S.A. is only accepting orders from its France '98 Rendez-vous club members. The information regarding how to become a member is also included in this message.
Please read the information below very carefully before you ask any question as everything is explained hereafter. Any inquiry you may have should be directed to:

Re: 1998 World Cup Tickets - F.I.F.A. France '98
We have now been advised that tickets for the 1998 World Cup are now on sale to National Associations. As per earlier correspondence, we are prepared to assist in accessing tickets for your use. Please find attached the F.I.F.A. price list and order form, along with special F.I.F.A. Conditions for purchasing tickets to France '98. In addition to the price of the tickets, an additional Handling and Administration fee in the amount of 15% of the total cost of the ticket order is being charged, along with Loomis Courier charge in the amount of 50 French Francs. This amount covers the cost of the tickets being courierd to you sometime in late May or as soon as the Association receives same from F.I.F.A. Both these costs are to be added to the total amount of your order.
In order to purchase tickets, please note the following procedures:
- Only one order will be accepted from you on the official F.I.F.A. Order Form;
- Deadline for orders is Monday, January 12, 1998;
- Payment must be made in full by French Franc Draft, (available at all Canadian Chartered Banks) payable to "The Canadian Soccer Association" dated no later than Monday, January 12, 1998;
- The Canadian Soccer Association will confirm your actual order, including non-availability of tickets, no later than May 31, 1998, subject of course to notification and confirmation by F.I.F.A. Those orders which cannot be filled in any way whatsoever, will be refunded to you, less a one-time 100 French Franc handling/administration fee. It should be noted that F.I.F.A. may substitute a less expensive category of ticket(s) if more expensive categories are not available. (For this reason, we recommend you order only Category 1 or Category 2 tickets, to allow for potential downgrades to other Categories, in order to maximize chances for ticket acquisition). The Association will consider this a filled order. For example, if you order 10 tickets and F.I.F.A. supplies us only with 5, we will send you these 5 tickets plus the appropriate refund on the unfilled portion of your order.
- There will be no refunds of any tickets for any reason whatsoever.
- Tickets are available to the Canadian Soccer Association from F.I.F.A. solely on F.I.F.A.'s discretion.
- The Canadian Soccer Association assume no liability for unfulfilled orders either in whole or in part.
- Any Ticket requests received from Travel Agents will be returned. We will not be accepting any ticket orders from Travel Agents other than the fully paid up members of Rendez-vous France '98 associated with Planet France in Toronto or Jet Tours in Montreal.
- If you are sending your order by courier, please instruct the courier company to not deliver to the Canadian Soccer Association office until Friday, January 2, 1998, as the office will be closed December 24, 1997 to January 1, 1998 inclusive.
- Tickets will be distributed by Loomis Courier no later than May 31, 1998, subject to receipt of same from F.I.F.A.
Following receipt of this memo you will have until Monday, January 12,1998 to complete and return your final order, along with full payment in a French Franc Draft. (Available from Canadian Chartered Banks)
In addition, you must sign and return the Acceptance of Terms and Conditions, which is located on the sheet titled: "Instructions for Ordering F.I.F.A. World Cup 1998 Tickets".
Please use the attached order form and ensure it is completed clearly and in a precise manner. Also, ensure that your information/ addition is correct on the order form and that your French Franc Draft is made payable to "The Canadian Soccer Association".
It should also be noted that we are only accepting orders from those members who have joined the Canadian Soccer Association "Rendez-vous France '98 Membership Program". No other orders will be accepted.
The Canadian Soccer Association assumes no liability whatsoever for unfilfilled orders either in whole or in part. We will do the best we can to secure the tickets from F.I.F.A., however, we do not guarantee the availability of any tickets whatsoever.
We are suggesting that due to the overwhelming demand for tickets, we are encouraging you to not place an order for either the official opening game on June 10 or the final match on July 12.
Thank you for taking careful note of the above instructions. We hope to be of service to you in order that you may be able to enjoy the matches of the F.I.F.A. World Cup - France '98.
