The brown book
Photo essay: Phonebook

In 1991 or 92, my significant other in Tehran gave me a few gifts
before I flew to the U.S. at the end of a visit. One was an agate ring,
which I lost in the Hunter College dorm showers in New York. There
was a men's leather travel bag (which I never used and eventually
got rid of). There was also a phonebook, remanants of which you see
here. The only reason I still have it is that I've lost two electronic
phonebooks. The entries are a mix of personal and business numbers
from the time when I was a journalist and actually called people on the phone.
I'm amazed it has survived this long. But it's only a matter of time when it will
get lost. So I've scanned the pages so I can save it on my computer, just in case :o)
