The Iranian

 

I stand here

At the crossing of my time

Leaving behind

My home

My family

My possessions

And the life I knew.

Ahead of me

A home I do not know

A family I do not have

A world full of nothing

A life I am not used to.

And above all

I left the fear staring into my eyes

Only to face the fear of the unknown...

 

This poem marks refugee week in Britain (23-29 June).
