Born in Tehran in 1959, Alaleh Alamir began studying art in the United States getting degrees from Reed College in Oregon, Parsons School of Design in NY and in 1987 she was accepted for a Doctorate in NYU. She has since then been mainly living in Europe. Her universal curiosity, which she put in the service of art at an early age, allowed her to put herself to the test at once in both the philosophy of art and its techniques, finding in the United States, as in Europe, an education, artistic groups, and the means for accomplishing her program of a total art.

She has been an artist-in-residence and teacher in several countries on several continents. Her catalog includes photography, film, a number of installations, both individual and group shows of her paintings, participation in performances by the Fluxus group, and notably a sound/instrument collaboration with LaMonte Young in Paris in 1989, and with other composers of minimalist music from the United States. Her work is included in numerous collections. For more details you can consult her website, alalehalamir.com
