The male form, sexuality, romance, and aggression
have been the focal points of my recent work. I am interested in
how I view men, how men view themselves and what that means to
me as a heterosexual woman.
Princes, romeos, and warriors are archetypes that
perpetuate the fears and fantasies that women have about men. My
paintings take
these characters and often confront them against themselves. Beautiful
men faun over each other and beefcakes are thrown togeather to
fight, play and examine themselves in an effort to explain their
maleness.
The bodily contact displayed between these men disregards
the harsh confines of simply heterosexual or homosexual preferences,
but instead creates scenarios in which men are explored in a more
all encompassing sexual realm. -- 5/20/04,
