Paradise

Scattered memories linger on
At the edge of the valley
Of his words.

Thoughts are fleeing
Unseen-
Untouched-
Hazy like a distant past.
And just as real.

Where does paradise sit?
Does it float in the open sea?
Caressed only by the uncertainty
Of an unattainable jewel?

Or does it lie on the firm ground,
Tangible and solid-
Satisfied only by the eternal
Vastness of its earth.

Does love only value
Fear and doubt
As its inspiration-
Its temptation-
Its reward?

Or does it seek fulfillment
In the warm embrace
Of loyalty and devotion
As its mistress-
Its muse-
Its lover?
