The answer
For Laleh, or Ladan

By Jam

The Iranian

I dreamed I was alone
bathed in light
in a straight hallway

Not led like a dog,
or pulled by my hair,
not having to stay

It opened to a park
shadows and sun
a polka dotted scene

A quiet afternoon
a sideway glance
at a handsome peddler

I dreamed my pace
slow as falling snow
aimless and serene

Dear God,
what would you want
to make it real?

Why crown
this cockroach in chain?
Oh the pain I feel..

And the answer came
as always, the same
"Come to me my darling"
