Poetry 4 the people

By Solmaz Sharif

The Iranian

history resonates

in my bones

i remain her pupil

afterall   one day

i just might become

her prophet

she suckles

the marrow in my spine

and if i drum

my fingers

just right

she hums her story

she reveals

my past in my niece

............yet to see the groundwork

............still thinking the stork

............did her right

............one day will see and carry

the cradle of blood

............she really came from

my future in my mother

............writing to friends back home

............about her american dream

............import cars and cubicles

............writing to friends back home

............laughing  my husband calls it

............the land of unfortunately

............writing to friends back home

............wanting to be

............home

my dreams in my grandmother

............her deferred dream

............flavors endless dishes

............more precious than saffron

............shows itself

............in delicate seams and patches

............translates into a touch

my maman joon *

............has fed me

has just begun

to discover their potency

just begun

to discover

she has given me

a head start
